- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp coffee or espresso powder
Instructions
- Warm the milk to about 110°F and combine it with sugar and yeast in a large bowl. Let it froth for 5-10 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Stir melted butter into the yeast mixture and then mix with the dry ingredients until well combined.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about one hour).
- Mix sugar and cinnamon for the filling while the dough rises.
- After rising, roll out the dough, spread the cinnamon filling, twist into knots, and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- While they cool slightly, prepare the coffee icing by mixing powdered sugar with coffee or espresso powder and drizzling over warm knots.
